Welcome to the UK (2007)

UK

Few medical tourists come TO the UK for care because the lines are long and the exchange rate a bit tough on the pocketbook. Many UK citizens actually visit other locations and often purchase private health coverage in addition to that which is provided by the NHS.

As a consultant in the field of Health Administration, I have been invited to England to consult to independent physicians who plan to establish a private ambulatory surgicenter to function outside the National Health System. Many offer quality care, no waiting and affordable pricing. As a trained surgical technologist, I didn't find anything to be out of order and noticed that they had similar experiences with third-party private insurance reimbursement because the vagueness of the contractual language affords the insurance plan the leverage to avoid paying bona fide claims on the same technicalities as we experience in the US. I guess for me, that means job security. How sad!
